Tips for time management and motivation

Sometimes, the music industry can be hard. It is not easy work, regardless of your industry. It doesn’t matter if you are the one creating the music, the producer, the manager, or booking the gig. There will always be hard work and difficult days. You are not given many opportunities, and society constantly pressures you to be good enough. People also tell you to find a real job. COVID-19 has made it difficult to find work in the music industry. Although the last few months were a downer, it was also a great time to start writing new music. It can be not easy to get out of bed, especially if you don’t have a job.

Get started

Understandably, you want to curl up on the couch and binge-watch Netflix all day. You might need to take a break from what you do every day. Motivation can be improved by trying new things. You can also try new creative outlets, such as painting and drawing. Your brain is creative, so you will be great at the other if you are good at one thing. You can also seek out an industry mentor to boost your motivation. Ask around, and you will find that most industry people are open to helping out when needed. It’s not difficult to find someone local and experienced in the field. It will be a great motivator to see someone in the position you want and to keep working hard.

What’s time management?

It can increase productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness. You can use many time management tools to manage your work, family, and social lives.

So that’s all fine and dandy, but what tools and resources do I need to manage my time effectively?

Elimination

You may think you have something you need, but you don’t. Please make a list of them and identify what they are. Keep in mind your goal and eliminate anything that doesn’t help it (if possible).

Planning

Make a master list using a notebook or your smartphone/laptop. The master list should contain everything, including your goals, tasks, and requirements. You can make your master list for the day, week or year. It doesn’t matter if it is for the month, week, or year. Whatever you find easiest to organize and understand. This list can be arranged by priority. For example, one is the most important, and five are the least. You should set deadlines and create a checklist to help you accomplish your goals and tasks. Do you want to create a song? Awesome! It’s awesome!

Reducing interruptions

Similar to eliminations but different in that these are likely things you can’t eliminate like work. You might find a place in your home where you can relax and do nothing but focus on what you are doing. Your schedule should be based on what you need to live your life. However, it is important to make sure that you are happy with what you do.

Resources

Calendars are a great resource. Both physical and digital calendars already have holidays and yearly events. A well-used digital calendar can be used to automatically enter your work schedule, set reminders, and colour code categories.

Although they’re a little lost treasure, physical calendars can be a great way to organize everything. You can keep track of each detail by using a physical calendar, and it can be displayed on a wall so you can see it every day.

You will feel accomplished when you see all your goals achieved at the end of the given timeframe.

A good work-life balance

It is great to reach your goals on time. But don’t let it take over your life. You can organize your goals in a way that works for you, but don’t do it outside your schedule. Everyone needs to recharge. If you cannot complete the task within the timeframe set, be kind to yourself. It doesn’t mean you have to plan everything in your life.

Stay motivated

Life can sometimes get chaotic quickly. This is where these points are most useful. It can be hard to remain motivated and active when you are stressed.

Meditation is a peaceful and easy way to motivate yourself in the morning. It is a great way to get your blood flowing, and it can help you wake up and be ready for the day ahead. Meditation and mindfulness can help performers improve their skills. Take the time to reflect on your goals and why you chose music or a career in it. This will keep you motivated to keep going. Please write down your inspirations and influencers and hang them up.
